Welcome to Mt Lyell Anchorage
Bed and Breakfast, Guest House Accommodation in Queenstown
The House is situated near the centre of town, within 200 metres of supermarkets, hotels, cafes and the West Coast Wilderness Railway.
Mt Lyell Anchorage is a large federation home with easy access and all ground floor accommodation. We can accommodate singles, doubles, families or groups.
History of the Anchorage
The History is a little sketchy but we are working on finding out more accurate details.
The Anchorage was originally built as a mine managers residence in the nearby town of Zeehan, around 1896. It was then purchased by the Mount Lyell Mining Co and moved to Queenstown via train, down to Strahan then up to Queenstown on the Abt Railway, sometime prior to World War II. It then became a boarding house for mine workers for many years before becoming a private family home again.
We purchased the property in July 2007 and opened as a B&B in December that year.
The property is about to undergo more changes with plans to install ensuite bathrooms and to convert an adjoining flat into an onsite cafe. Guests will then be able to enjoy hearty cooked breakfasts and the pick of our wonderful Tasmanian food and wines on our dinner menu all prepared by co-owner and chef Joy.
So keep an eye on our website for updates and come and visit us on the stunning West Coast.
